Bind of Veils in use - Challenge of the Super Sons 3
Bind of Veils
Debut Batman v2 #35 (October 2014)
Type magic
Used by Bat Family

The Bind of Veils is a lasso crafted by Hephaestus. Using an "inverted" version of the weave used to make the Lasso of Truth, it is made from the wool of sheep used by Odysseus's men to trick the cyclops. The item has the ability to cast illusions on reality for its target.

As part of a contingency plan to take down members of the Justice League should they become corrupt, Batman spent two years looking for the relic, before finally purchasing it on the magical black market. When Wonder Woman attacks Batman under the influence of Joker toxin, he deploys his "Fenrir" armor equipped with the tools to defeat the Justice League. During his fight with Wonder Woman, he drapes the Bind of Veils over her shoulder, creating for her a vision that she has killed him, allowing Batman to retreat from the fight. (Batman v2 #35)

When an apprentice of Felix Faust, named Rora, tasks Jon Kent and Damian Wayne with saving members of the Justice League without alerting them of the danger they're in, Damian borrows the Bind of Veils from his father's arsenal to save Wonder Woman from an attack by a flame sword-wielding minotaur sent by Ares. When bound with the lasso, Wonder Woman is placed in a trance state, unable to move while the Super Sons battle the mythical creature. Upon its defeat, Diana awakens from her drift off to a "dream realm," aware that someone was looking out for her. (Challenge of the Super Sons #3)

The Dark Multiverse version of Bruce Wayne who murdered his parents in crime alley grows up to be the Robin King. Among the devices kept in his utility belt is the Bind of Veils. (Dark Nights: Death Metal: Robin King #1)

Notes[]

  • Superboy refers to the item informally as a "lasso of lies" at one point.
